WAVE 4 WAVE ~ Wear Purple Day!

Wear Purple and Wave 4 WAVE! on Thursday, October 19, 2023

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Did you know? 58 percent of Alaska women experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or both during their lifetime. (Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and the University of Alaska Anchorage Justice Center, 2020 Alaska Victimization Survey Results)

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, WAVE invites you to help us raise awareness about domestic violence and support WAVE’s work to advocate for people who have experienced domestic or sexual violence, and to promote relationships without abuse. Here is how you can do this:

Wear purple We encourage all community members to participate in Petersburg’s Wear Purple Day to show support for WAVE’s vision: Petersburg is a community where consent is the norm, our kids know they are valued, and people know they can turn to WAVE for help.

Participate in Wave 4 WAVE Wave 4 WAVE is an annual event that gives business and community members a chance to support WAVE’s work. Throughout the day, WAVE staff, board members, and volunteers will visit Petersburg businesses to receive donations. This is an opportunity for businesses to show their support for WAVE and have their pictures taken while they, “Wave for WAVE!” Anyone can come out to show their support as our teams move about town. Remember to wear purple for the photo op! Pictures will be posted to our social media sites using #Wave4WAVE and #PetersburgWAVE.

WAVE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our staff aids people impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking to navigate the legal system, find housing, and connect with basic needs resources. We operate a 24-hour response line and provide advocacy to listen to and support folks.

Business owners and community members, please consider making your contribution to help us reach our annual fundraising goal of $20,000. Your gifts will go to support:

  • WAVE’s advocacy work to support people who experience domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking

  • WAVE’s work to prevent these forms of violence by raising awareness and educating the community

  • WAVE’s move to its new office space at 14 North Sing Lee Alley (under the courthouse).

Donations can be made in these ways:

  • In-person on October 19 while we visit local shops

  • Through WAVE’s secure website petersburgwave.org/donate

  • By mailing a check to WAVE at PO Box 415, Petersburg, Alaska 99833

Thank you for your continued support! We could not do this work without you.

Gratefully –

WAVE Board and Staff
